Woods Resort, The -Mountain View, is a Resort, 18 hole golf course located in Hedgesville, West Virginia.
The 18-hole Mountain View Course wanders around a wooded plateau between The Woods Pro Shop and the Third Hill Mountain which dominates its views. Most holes play flat and fair, but many golfers are happy to ride carts up and down the hills between some greens and tees. Carved from a forest, Mountain View's fairways are framed by dogwood, maple, oak, and pine trees. A variety of housing types and architectural styles line the fairways.

My golfing buddies and I have been travelling from MD for a golf weekend since 2001. While the course is fun and fairly open, don't be fooled by the slope of 113. This is at least a 122 (which is what the course was sloped in 2001). 3 of the 4 par 5s are over 530 yards and play longer due to being all up hill. Wind just makes longer. A couple of holes have added OB since 2001 as houses go up. I imagine the 113 reflects the fact the holes are all straight.

I play here three or four times a year, most recently 7-30-08.
The design is excellent, with good use of the terrain, which has lots of elevation change (and hence, not very walkable for us seniors). Not especially long, but plenty of challenge and great vistas (the one from the tee box on #16 is awesome!).
Water comes into play on a few holes, and it is not just decoration, but shot-influencing. Tee boxes are modestly sized, but level. Farways are generally wide, no moguls or sculpting, and very few are flat. Bunkers are not overwhelming in either size or number, and usually play fairly. Greens tend to be single plane (flat, but tilted), with very little tiering or contouring: they usally putt true, if a little slow.
Staff is uniformly outstanding everywhere... the influence of a membership club, I suppose. A very nice course that is worth the effort to find: it is a bit off the beaten track, so make sure you have directions before setting out. Also, they do a LOT of outings and member events, so call ahead to confirm availability.

I am sure that if I had played later in the season, this course would have been ranked even better. It had rained heavily for three days straight before I stopped on my trip back from Florida to play there. The grass in the fairways was long and they were pretty wet and were unable to be cut, probably had at least 4 days growth on them. The greens we still a little bumpy from the cross cutting in the previous fall. I played the tips and shot 82 for my first time visiting the course (7.7 GHIN index) on a very windy day with the course playing very long due to the wet conditions. It is a challenge with the elevation changes, but is fairly straightforward. With midsummer conditions, it would be a lot of fun, with plenty of scoring opportunities. I will stop here at every opportunity while travelling through, and recommend you do the same. The staff was very friendly and made me feel right at home. There are spa/resort/pool facilities as well if your whole group are not golfers. I hope this helps. Hit'em straight!

Given that it was early in the Spring and we'd had lots of rain lately, fairways were in good shape. Greens had not come back to in-season shape yet. Arrived at 11:45 for a 12:30 tee time and were told we could go right out. Played in just over 3 and 1/2 hours which is rare in this area. Play after 12 on the weekends when the rates are down.

Course was too dry, burned out in areas diminishing an otherwise positive experience. Evidently there are restrictions on irrigation use plus the irrigation coverage is inadequate. The greens had been aerated 2 weeks ago and it seemed to be a competent professional job but the greens were too long and bumpy for good putting. I would like to play it under better conditions because it is a good and fair layout.
